Muhammad Shaaban, Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly Affairs and Conference Management will be coming to Columbia to talk about his experiences as one of the UN leaders.

On 9 February 2007, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon announced the appointment of Ambassador Muhammad Shaaban of Egypt as Under-Secretary-General for General Assembly Affairs and Conference Management. Mr. Shaaban currently serves as National Coordinator for Reform Initiatives in the Middle East and he has been Personal Assistant to the Foreign Minister of Egypt since 2004.

Current Human Rights in Burma from a UN/ Amnesty Intl Perspective

Anil Raj, from the UN and Amnesty International will talk about Burma and the state of Human Rights in the area. Anil Raj is a Myanmar (Burma) Country Specialist for Amnesty International USA and has held this post since 2007. In 2008, Anil briefly spent time on the Thai-Burmese border working with the Burma Lawyer's Council on human rights documentation and international criminal accountability for war crimes and crimes against humanity allegedly committed by the Burmese junta, with a focus on gender-based crimes.
